Health Insurance

It seems I put this in the general board by mistake. Sorry.

Hi all!!

I am looking for a little input.

We are looking a some new health ins. They have specified that since my company is a corporation they need copies of my 2006 tax returns among other tax forms.

If you are a Sole Proprietor, Partnership, or Non-Profit they want your Schedule C or Schedule K-1, 990 forms respectively.

They are saying that they need to have proof that we are really a corporation. Isn't that what the EIN and Tax ID is for???

Is this happening to all of you that own the business or is this Health Ins. Co. pushing the limits.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Les

Re: Health Insurance

It is another means of allowing them to look at your financial stability. They will pull your personal credit, but that information does not reflect assets and gross income. What they want is complete access to assess their interest in you.

Thanks for the response.

So has something changed as to magnetic north to cause this that I may have missed a memo??

In 18 years of business and health care ins. this is the first time this has been requested. It makes me question the validity of their request.

I guess I will just have to bite my lip on this and go on with life. But my wife will be upset while trying to get the blood stains out of my shirts.

Thanks again for the response.

Les

Re: Health Insurance

Doesn't sound right to me. Don't do it unless all the companies are requiring it.

Did you know that id theft by bank tellers is the most common? They have access to everything. For me to turn over docs takes a whole lot. I've said flat out no to all sorts of weird info requests.

I notice the credit reporting companies are now offering a "lock" on your credit history, so anyone accessing it would have to obtain your specific permission...not a bad idea, except of course, every time you give permission or lock it, you get to pay $10. I think Dave Ramsey has it right...pay off your debts and never have a credit score to worry about again.
