I like #8 the best. I think the others are trying to hard to be abstract. 8 is simple and to the point. It won't make the customers stare and have to guess what you offer.

I wouldn't push a checkered flag, simply because I wouldn't want the first impression to be that we rush. I doubt you'd get to explain your reasoning to the guy that doesn't call.

Re: Having My Logo Re-designed. Would Appreciate Your Opinions Please

I actually didn't like # 2, because, tho it is a level-vial, it is hard to determine what it is, at first glance.

For the posters who voted for #8, Don't forget to take into consideration the NAME of his company.

FINISH LINE CARPENTRY

What does that evoke? = Speed...Car....Race....

IMHO - It seems like numbers 4 thru 7 are more connected with the association of the company name (?)

Tho, number 8 is nice, it doesn't seem to fully connect with the "name" of his company...

Most have responded positively.I like it.I'm a water man.My logo isn't used on my web-page either.I gave the artist creative space .I am more interested in up-dating my lame pics.more than anything else.I've done the plumbing in multi-millioon dollar homes in Avala in Tampa ,Florida, all over Vegas, and never had a digital camera for pics..Sorry,to step on your thread .

I agree the level vials are hard to recognize--especially in the first.

I'm curious why #8 is so different in style from the others?

It's much more old fashioned... does that fit the personality of your company more?

I'm going to have to depart from the others & say that one is my least favorite.

To me it has a more "crafty" feel than professional carpentry.

I probably like sample 4 the best... As Mike said, you have to imagine it on everything: trucks, letterhead, cards, etc. As a brand, I think that one (or one of the others similar) has the best visual impact.

The fist one I thought looked like a vitamin E cap. I vote for number 8 but the strip flooring or decking looks kind of plain. Maybe a gloss effect or a light wood grain? or just a more pleasant color than that dull chocolate.

Yeah, yeah, alright.....I'll go along with number 8 also,

But???

Why is your Logo name Finish Line Carpentry..........When your company name is Finish Line Construction?

Wow, I'm away for 2 hours picking up a check and come back to all these replies lol.

Ed, Im changing the name of my company to Finishline Carpentry, because I feel it represents what I do better.

ChrWright, #8 was different from all the rest because I suggested to him I wanted to see something for a high end customer.

AtlanticWBConst, The reason I'm re-designing a new logo is because I'm trying to get away from the race/car/speed image. My current logo has that feel already. Take a look at my avatar .

Silvertree, I amazed at all the feedback already. Thats why I keep coming back to this awesome site .

These are no way finished logos. He gave me 7 different concepts for me to choose from. My designer wants me to narrow down my top 3, and then were going to go from there. There will be many revisions between now, and the finished product. I'm thinking #8 so far, but like AW said the flooring planks are a little plain in it soo far. Keep the opinions coming guys.

#8. But you need to change the font. It simply doesn't go with the name.

Re: Having My Logo Re-designed. Would Appreciate Your Opinions Please

guess it comes down to if you have white trucks or dark trucks lol. I think 4 6 and 7 would look good on a white truck/van/trailer, while 8 would look good on a darker van, truck or trailer. Like the class that comes with the scrolls in #8. but I gotta say I really like #4 and #7. maybe one for hoodies t shirts and polo's and another for vehicles? nothing sells like a bunch of walking billboards running around in the box stores...

Again, I'm departing from the groupthink here--but I don't see #8 as high end.

Just MHO, as that's the market I primarily work in. I'm not saying it's a bad logo--it's just too old fashioned for me.

If you stick with that overall concept, I'd ask them to revamp the planks (as was mentioned), punch up the scroll work to something less "crafty" (maybe an acanthus look?), and play around with the font choices to something less ordinary.

For overall use (billboard, yard sign, shirt, business card, etc.)--I think you'd want something that has more contrast. Something you can read quickly at 40 mph and still get the gist of.

My 2 cents.

Do you target mostly end use customers (homeowners) or builder/remodelers?

I like #4 the best,

#2 looks too much like motor oil, I think Pennzoil when I first saw it.

I liked #8 for a while, but I think it may look too much like a generic logo, and may not stand out well.

#4. Personally, I prefer a clean visual. Then #8, but I agree with the font objections.

Re: Having My Logo Re-designed. Would Appreciate Your Opinions Please

Hey guys, first time poster. Anyways I like #4 as well. It is simple and very recognizable. Think of the NIKE swoosh or the golden 'Arches'. They are very simple and you recognize them instantly when you see them. Plus it portrays visually what your company does. It might work so well that people might think that you do only floors and that's it.
