I highly doubt that Melissa, Patty and I are instigating any chic fight there Bob, but Mike.. hmm.. that's possible.

Oh wait, did I use enough verbage to explain that clearly?

Ya know.. it takes 8 large boxes of jello to completely fill one of those kiddy pools. ( Don't EVER try it in a hot tub, it will trash the jets) Oh wait, how would I know that??

Re: *grumble* Why Do People Think This Is Ok To Ask??

I'm not interested in chick fights although jello sounds pretty good right about now. I haven't had lunch.

I wasn't lashing out until the end. In fact I have said over and over how much I appreciate everyone's contributions, whether I agree with them or not.

I've said how I respect people who don't have the best delivery and on and on. I think I've been pretty open about my own faults and mistakes, again, I don't know where I'm falling short with this conversation.

People have taken lots of time to tell me things I already know, to chastise me about things I didn't mean and when I explained what I *did* mean, I'm basically told I'm being an unappreciative brat.

Everyone who has said something has been thanked for their reply. I have expanded on thoughts that apparently fell short. You're right, I shouldn't expect people to read my mind and I said as much and explained why I thought it was ok to paraphrase. I said I need to be more specific in the first place.

I am still missing something I guess. Admitting I'm wrong, saying thank you, offering appreciation and answering questions. What was it I didn't do that was "right"??

Oh right, because I said I was new, that means I can't challenge anyone else's opinion. I'm supposed to sit back, nod complacently and take notes. Duly noted.

Way back in the beginning I professed that I had strong opinions and shared them freely. I also didn't carry one bad conversation onto the next. I don't hold grudges and I harbor no ill will towards anyone. I also confessed that I know I am stupid about some things and usually am pretty good about admitting it. I think I did that fairly well in this thread.

I notice that everyone who had a problem with my original comments haven't read the thread where we got the job. Obviously, the way in which I worded what I paraphrased for you guys, was good enough for him. In this case, I didn't fail did I?

Did I learn a bunch of stuff from this thread? Yes I did.

You guys are just really stingy with credit where credit is due around here. I don't know much about certain aspects of the contracting industry but I have learned a lot and you just won't give me an inch.

That's ok though as long as I'm learning, that's all that matters.

Thanks again!

Ok, the flavor is cherry, and you four gals will have to pin me in 30 seconds to win. However, I have to warn ya, you'll need another gal, my main appendages have you out numbered.

Re: *grumble* Why Do People Think This Is Ok To Ask??

Kristina,

I think you and I have communicated clearly to one another.

One of the difficult things about email communication is the difficulty in conveying attitude as they can't see the grin or hear the tone of voice. All that they are left with is the actual words used and the attitude that creates in them that they project on the writer.

Cooments like:

"Oh right, because I said I was new, that means I can't challenge anyone else's opinion. I'm supposed to sit back, nod complacently and take notes. Duly noted."

And

"You guys are just really stingy with credit where credit is due around here. I don't know much about certain aspects of the contracting industry but I have learned a lot and you just won't give me an inch."

Those types of comments will probably interpreted by the masses as sarcastic and biting. If that was not your intent and you really respect us as much as you have sometimes said, then I think we would deserve a little more courtesy and effort in your word choice.

Your responses to me included many of the emocons that expressed your intent. Well done.

No one thinks you are stupid, but many have see others say the things you have written exactly the way your wrote them and if you fell into that practice, they just wanted to help you get out of it.

It is all well intentioned info that has been offered,(except for the jokes-they were just well intentioned fun) and it only was when you responded in the defensive posture, that they postured back. Some of your thanks you's did come across in the "less than sincere" flavor, whether you deliberately meant them to or not.

This post:

"I am still missing something I guess. Admitting I'm wrong, saying thank you, offering appreciation and answering questions. What was it I didn't do that was "right"??"

differs from your other responses in that is was "sounding" sincere. Compare the three and see if you can get what the differences are.

As it stands I think you got the question you asked in the beginning answered. Now if you want to know how to get them to stop asking, just ask. It is al about how you present yourself in your marketing and bid package.

Re: *grumble* Why Do People Think This Is Ok To Ask??

You guessed me correctly. I agree that you communicated what you intended without making me feel like an idiot. I appreciate it.

The first two comments were indeed meant to be sarcastic and biting. The last one was completely sincere.

I try and have even added my own emoticons in an attempt to communicate the intended nature of any given sentence that could be taken out of context if not explained more in detail.

You are absolutely right about intonation and feeling not being readily apparent in emails, so I *try* not to look too deeply into what people write. I really hope that other people do the same thing.

Everyone did help me out and again, I said as much. Much of the follow up posts were an attempt to explain that what I said HERE wasn't what I actually SAID, so while I realize what I said HERE would NOT be prudent to say to a customer, what you guys were saying I should say, is what was said. Did you get that? It sure sounds confusing to me.

So as many times as I said "I know that's not the right thing to say to someone, it's what I say in my HEAD or to others in the business" a lot of people continued to pound home to me the message I had already received, which lead to my frustration and subsequent "lashing out".

I even apologized for implying that what anyone had said/done/does with their own business was "wrong" on any level.

I guess I'm still confused as to how I may have been biting the hand that feeds me, so to speak, but I can see how people might think that not really "knowing" me or what I'm about.

I also prefer cherry jello and would be highly impressed by Bob's "dragon" if it were in fact able to wrap around his body like a boa constricter.

It's all good on my end. A passionate and information conversation just took place and I appreciate every angle. The only thing I ever regret is when people misunderstand me as a person. Not necessarily what I say, but where it comes from. I never speak from a voice of malice. I get frustrated and aggrevated but that happens to everyone.

Peace people and enjoy any fun stuff you have going on. I'm going to put aloe on the first sunburn of the season that covers my body right now and replace the lost fluids with some adult beverages in mass quantity, which will do nothing to help my dehydration but will help my mindset immensely!
