Faxing
How do you fax stuff.
No really what I am asking is let me break it down first. I got ambitious the other day and did some investigation on some foundo's. I found out who the builder is. I believe they are a medium size builder which means no 50 thousand dollars a year G/L to build tract housing. As most will know the frame was already given to another crew. How ever when I talked with the the guy he said he had some other stuff in the fire. So he wanted me to fax over some company info. I think I get the general jist of what he want I am having trouble trying to present to look professional. Does anybody have any template or a link to a site? |

Re: Faxing
From going into houses pretty much right after the framers are done, I have a pretty good feel of what various builders might be looking for when they're auditing a new framing crew. They might want information such as the size of your crew (which gives them an idea of how fast a job might get framed), type of framing material you work with on a regular basis (dimensional, TJI, steel, etc.), speed at which you work, weather conditions in which you will work, weather or not you require jobsite power, etc. A listing of insurance types and policy numbers would be impressive, along with any professional certifications you or your crew have attained, or any educational workshops you've attended. A note about your good relationship with local inspection authorities along with how you keep waste low and clean up well might be interesting reading. I think that most buliders might want a ballpark square foot price in such a fax, but I think you'd be nuts to provide one.
I dunno... just me talking based on things I've overheard, or you could try a fax like this one: |

Re: Faxing
Ok I was joking about sending a fax. I was looking more for a stuctured template form letter/resume. I was preferably going to type the letter but I think MD's version might be top-notch. lol But I am insulted that my work is thought of as pretty good and will pass most of the time.
At most I have had six correction's for final frame. All small ticky tack stuff but it was corrected non the less. I did give a ballpark price over the phone for medium houses nothing cut up. the framing market is priced what it is. I will not go under 4 bucks a sq ft and that is for a sq box trussed roof. I would like to see some outt of state guys try under cutting that. You won't last long Yes I do know how to send a fax from the PC. Last edited by JustaFramer; 01-14-2006 at 01:17 PM. |

Re: Faxing
Are you asking about a fax cover page? Most "word processing" programs have templates. Microsfot word has a template that you just plug in to and from data and then print it. Sometimes you can even fax it right from the computer and save paper.

No more of a template to build off of for the contact info and any other selling pionts. I am not so good at writing structure so I need a guide to making it look good. |

Re: Faxing
I made up a letter head from Word that QuickBooks uses as a template. I do my estimate through QB, with a cover letter explaining the job. If there is a contract that is page 3. That's it. If the contractor needs my insurance information, I call my agent and she faxes the proper documents. It's not very expensive at all. Just a little time in the evenings and early mornings.

Re: Faxing
I cant believe you wont go under $4 per sq' I wont touch a frame for less the $5. Any time a builder asks me to fax a letter I call the copy shop I use and have them make up a letter for me. They have all my info and I havent actually seen one yet but I get compliments on it. Good thingthe lady at the copy shop like me and she keeps trying to hook me up with her daughter even after she made me xmas cards with my wife and I with my daughter. Does that seem odd??

Re: Faxing
I like MD's version. The only thing I would add is don't capitalize the "g" in "Good", you don't want to risk anybody thinking you're not professional.

Re: Faxing
In my businesses, faxing is very common. Many times, every day. You may want to look at the legal aspects. I don't know about the validity of e-mails but signed faxes work anywhere within the local 50.
