A contractor buddy of mine told me he saves them to PDF so the HO can't alter them if you leave them in .doc

I don't have that as an option and I don't know how you get it as an option. I e-mailed myself one of my estimates to another account and it opened in word but I wasn't able to alter it in any way.

Is there any other reason to save it to PDF? Is it just the more "norm" ?

Re: Estimate/Contracts Forms

Dubz - as long as the PDF properties are setup properly, they can't be edited. If you use the protect feature on MS Office products, they can't edit them unless they figure out the password or have a macro that unlocks it for them. I found a great one for Excel which allows to me unlock any spreadsheet & see all the hidden cells & formatting.

On to the second part, Not everyone is running MS Office & while they can get a viewer it is better to give them a more "generic" means of opening it. This also insures that all your formatting, fonts, etc... looks the same / is captured properly.

There was a thread awhile back on which PDF writer program you use - there were a few free ones listed & as I recall I stated which one I use that does have those security features. (No mine was not free)
