Question

Education For Contractors

I'm curious as to how much education those of you who are successful (and also profitable) contractors have had before becoming successful at running your business?

I personally have no higher education besides only an associate's in carpentry and the trade school and four-year-apprenticeship I went through several years ago. What kind of education would you recommend?

Re: Education For Contractors

not sure if im what you call "successful" (imo im still a "journeyman")

but i never had formal education of any type that is related to what i do now

i did lose tons of money before i learned how to make it

then i lost more before i learned how to KEEP it

not to say im an expert at any of that and im still in the midst of my "education"

Re: Education For Contractors

The amount of education isn't as important as what field it is in. I have degrees in disciplines that have nothing to do with my career choice. But I have taken night classes in business, finance, and management through a few community colleges that have helped me immeasurably over the years.

Try this for diverse: I did vocational school for machine shop technology. Back to tech again after the army for an A&P license, then to college, Ba. and M.Ed, and I don't teach anymore...but I can tell you I appreciate my education every day. I also know a lot of very successful businessmen who didn't finish high school.
