Don't Have Microsoft Office? Check This Out.

I've just noticed a new release of Open Office from Sun. You may or may not know this is group of programs much like Microsoft Office. It contains Database, Spreadsheet, Word processor, Presentation, and Drawing programs. Fully compatible with MS products. In other words you can open a .doc file created in word. A user with MS Office can open an Open Office file with word, excel, etc. I have used the past version for a couple of years with no issues whatsoever. In fact there are things about it I find I like better than Bills versions.
The best part of this software bundle is that the price is right FREE to anyone.
So if you don't have office from Billy try it you will like it. Even if you do have an older version of MS Office try open office it doesn't cost you anything. Here is a link to the Open Office home page.
http://www.openoffice.org/
Enjoy.

I used to use it and it does just about everything office does, and yes it oopens office files. I decided against using it company wide because it is still a little bit klunky.

It's been around for years, but let's face it; products that are SOLD are usually better than products which are given away. In this case I wouldn't say "better" but I would say more user friendly for sure.

Maybe one of you computer guys/girls can explain to me how to scan a letter, etc. and get it into a word processor where I can edit it. I've downloaded Open Office and I've got Micrsoft Works but I don't have Micrsft.Office. Any help would be appreciated

What you need is OCR software. (Optical Character Recognition) It doesn't come with works. You can purchase it from third parties. Scanning gives you an image, just like a fax or any other picture for that matter. It does not understand it is text until you recognize it with OCR. Some scanners do come with OCR software. Look at the manufactures web site to see if any is available.

I use Corel but it is really more than I need and pricey. I originally paid around $250 many years ago and with all of the updates, am now into it for over $500.
