Does This Make You - Hesitant?

found this add in the craigslist for my city... I am thinkin, that this person wants to either shop around, or use other guys "per foot" estimates to beat down the price... sounds like it could be a financial pit, as who know's how many corners? or 20' off the floor?
funny thing is that his contact info is missing... its tempting, cause this is exactly the size of job that I could handle by myself, but something tells me that he could be a problem..
what do you all think?

I would mess with this goof. Tell him you charge by the job not LF, etc.,

May not be as bad as it looks.

Many homeowners have no idea how to find someone to do work. Maybe they've had a bad experience before, maybe not.

I would e-mail a response with a very general price and assumptions. A short explanation might help. You could market yourself.

Everyone starts by looking for cheap if they don't know how to make a distinction. The effective contractor will sell himself and his company. Convince people that they really are getting more for their additional $.

Let him know that you abide by the laws of this country, and you will only give him a per millimetre price.

Re: Does This Make You - Hesitant?

sounds like a regular job offer to me

what makes this stand out so much

that his pay structure is by the linear foot?

the finish carpenters I know charge by the linear foot

it's just crown moulding and baseboard, you should know how much you can nail off in a day and what you should charge per linear foot

do you do commercial work? or work with any GCs

with a GC, they want to know your charge per linear ft
if you told a GC you had to go to every job to price it, you wouldn't work for that GC

if you're worried about a bunch of corners and tight spots
just let him know, that this is charge for 4 walls,
and use a change order if there are crazy angles, curves, etc.
