Creating History

Anyone have an Excel spreadsheet for creating history for your company, like to find out how many leads your getting a month, how many you need to sell to meet your number goals, find out your closing ratio. find out your average job price, find out how many estimates a week it takes to be happy?

Im kinda retarded when it comes to creating spreadsheets, i need help.

thanks

Re: Creating History

Since noone seems to have anything,
I'm betting that if you spend 4 hours one evening doing a tutorial online, you can build what you want in another 2 hours. There's usually a free spreadsheet on most pcs. if not you can surely download one. If you jump in and get stuck, come back to the forum. It's fun!

Re: Creating History

Actually bill gives a lot of very good advice. He gave you good advice and you were a dick.
Looks like you want someone to hand you a complete package that solves your needs. He showed you where to look to make your own program that will solve your problem, what more do you want from some random stranger offering free advice?

Re: Creating History

We have many spread sheets, but they are all custom made, what works for me won't necessarily work for you. Do you know the basics of how Excel works? How to create formulas, how to format cells? Your needs are really basic as far as Excels abilities, just using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, however the process of what you are asking is very complicated.

Quote:
how many leads your getting a month
That's relatively easy, all you need to do is keep track of them and have excel add them up.

Quote:
how many you need to sell to meet your number goals
That's rather complicated in that "your number goals" isn't something anybody knows but you and you will need a separate process to determine that for yourself.

Quote:
find out your average job price
That's simple again for Excel, but complicated in that you need to input all your jobs from whatever accounting source you are using. You could do them manually of course.

Quote:
find out how many estimates a week it takes to be happy?
Once again, simple math but not easy for anybody else to accomplish for you since nobody knows what exactly your definition of keeping you happy really is. Is it profits per job, number of jobs, gross sales...

As you can see, the process is rather simple for you if you know the basics of Excel, the actual methods to get exactly what you want are rather complicated for somebody to just upload your custom solution for you.

It's time to buy Excel for Dummies or another basic book and spend some time with it.

Mike Your Advice was very good and helpful for others also, below is not for you. Gosh, people post and they dont even have a spreadsheet for company history grrrrrr........

I love advice. Im sorry but for my question i was not looking for advice only a basic spreadsheet for company history. Learn to understand what you read dont go any further than the simple question. Dont assume i need some advice. i Need a spreadsheet. When did i say i wanted it for free, never, assuming?

Barnes and Noble for a few hrs. and Excel for dicks. HA HA

Thanks everyone

Re: Creating History

You're going to last a loooong time here...I can tell these things .

Like Mike said (even though you didn't listen), what you are looking for is very basic and easy to do. I would take 5 minutes to learn how to make the formulas you need.

If I had seen this earlier, and if you had enough info in your question (which you did NOT by a long shot), I probably would have made something for you.

But now....ehh...I don't think I wanna waste my time because chances are if it wasn't perfectly what you wanted, you'd bi+ch about it anyway.

Also, if you knew anything at all about excel (or any spreadsheet program), you'd know that it's not just as easy as "a spreadsheet for tracking history" or whatever you said. A person that was going to make you a turnkey program would need things like:

What headings would you like to see?
Do you want it broken down monthly...weekly...daily?
What are your "number goals" you speak of? (not the definition...the number)

and about a thousand other things that would come up during the building of this program.

OHHHH...and this person would be paid...and paid well at that.

Now then, if you'd like to quit being an a$$. And if you'd like to provide ALOT more information about what you want. I might be able to get you started as soon as I have time.

BUT...it WON'T be perfect...it WON'T be a turnkey program...and it WON'T do exactly what you want without modifications by you.

If you're up to the challange, so am I.....when I have time, like I said.

Re: Creating History

Troy,

I agree with Mike Finley and Jim P. Spend some time learning Excel and you will be much further along. Excel can be a great tool. Even if someone put together a spreadsheet for you, if you don't know what you are doing you could wreck the formulas in no time and render the whole thing useless.

If someone gives you a fish, you'll eat today. If you learn to fish, you can eat everyday.

Just so you know, I track all of my leads and assorted information in a data base I built. I care about my history, but I want to track it in a much more sophisticated way than is possible in Excel.

This says a great deal about what he really wants.

What he wants is someone to babysit him and hand him everything he needs in this business, and I'm guessing, in life in general.

Re: Creating History

I need to post again... I need to up my post count it makes me feel more like a man. right.

If you spent the money on a good training system for excel it would do wonders for you.

My wife took a class on excel in college a few years back and I am amazed at what it can do. Just about anything. Drawback is she hates making things for me on excel so I have to struggle through things on my own. Once in awhile she helps me out when I get real stuck.

Yea ummm...I changed my mind. Good luck though. I know you'll go far in the construction world and in life with the attitude you have .

I sure hope nobody thinks I'm trying to artificially raise my post count.
