Contractors Exam.

I have to take a test with a local municipality before I get a permit in this township. I have never had to do this. The test will be based on state code. I had to buy a $50 book and now I gotta studdy...blah. How hard are these tests anybody have to take something similiar.

Re: Contractors Exam.

The tests vary widely between areas so no one can tell you exactly how it goes unless they took the test themselves in your area. The state licensing exam for me was two tests. The general exam based on the IRC building code and a couple other codes (open book) and the business/law exam (closed book). Both exams were 55 questions each I believe and the general took me about an hour and the business/law took me less than 10 mins.

Re: Contractors Exam.

I think these tests are a good thing.

I lived in NJ all my life where they feed the building inspectiors raw meat, beat them with a stick all night and turn them loose on contractors all day. If you are a hack contractor in NJ, you're in for a long day.

I now live in central NY state where there are no building depts or zonning laws.

.......talk about contractors that need to take tests!
