Contractor License
Hi guy, just a quick question.
I just want to know if it is possible for 2 different companies to be using the same contractors license. |

Re: Contractor License
I'm certain that would not be allowed in my county.

Re: Contractor License
I'm thinking as long as the person whose name is on the license is a principle in both companies it might fly.

Re: Contractor License
Here, a GC can stamp any project. Most don't but a few just sit in the office and sell their license.......for a while.

Re: Contractor License
The question was: can two different companies use the same license. The answer should be the same everywhere - NO!
Now the holder of a license can (illegally) use it to pick up permits or buy materials for other companies, but that is not quite the same thing. Any of the above is a dumb idea....

Re: Contractor License
It varies by state, I'm sure... Here in NC, I can qualify two companies as a GC.

Re: Contractor License
In VA we can have as many aka's or dba's (doing business as) as we want to pay for but it is still the same company.
I don't think two companies owned by different individuals can share the sme license. I am 99.9% sure. It just wouldn't make any sense. Licensing is to show abilities in the business you are in, the public safety, and to prove financial responsibilty, among other things. I can't imagine how that can transfer to anyone that hasn't done those things. At least State licenses are, county is different, but in VA you need the State also. In Florida you can have just the county, but we hd to take the same exam as VA state. Paul |
