Company Execs May Get Prison Hiring Illegal Workers

Prison for hiring Illegals in CA? Amen!

Let's get the truck and ladder guys next!

"SAN DIEGO -- The founder of a Southern California fence-building company is due in federal court in San Diego this week to be sentenced for hiring illegal immigrants.

In December, Riverside-based Golden State Fence Company agreed to pay nearly $5 million, one of the largest fines for immigration violations.

Even more striking: two company executives pleaded guilty to felony charges of knowingly hiring illegal immigrants, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison. At the time, federal prosecutors said they planned to seek a prison term of at least six months.

Due to be sentenced Wednesday are Mel Kay, the company's founder, chairman and president, and Michael McLaughlin, manager of the company's Oceanside office. "

Good. We should all be checking documentation to make sure we're hiring legally. If you have all the documents, the employer is safe even if they're fake or stolen.

I believe in legal immigration. Go through the channels and come here legally, and you're welcome. Enter without the papers and you deserve to be sent home. I don't care if immigrants speak English or not - they can learn. But get your papers in order.

on the jail time for knowingly hiring illegals.
I am a little disappointed that the prosecuting attorneys are only trying for the minimum. On the other hand a $5 million fine is a lot worse than a few years in jail...

It's what we call (at least in North Carolina) guys that are not really a company-you know that guy you see driving a rusted out longbed with a ladder hanging out the back 15 feet.

Not really. They only got 6 months of house arrest and 3 yrs of probation.

I have seen that company around and there are A LOT more of them out there. Fence Factory is a big one and I think most of them are illegal...but in L.A. they are everywhere. Good news is that home owners are starting to get it, that these filthy people are really hacks that do horrible work. Sure they can dig a ditch, but being actually skilled is a different story. However I will say that not all of them are mindless idiots. Some of the more intelligent ones want to learn, and want to do a good job....I say go after anyone who hires them, LOL there would be SO MANY contractors out of business around here if that actually happened. We can hope right?

Wow you mean make contractors operate legally and hire people that are at least US Citizens or allowed to work in the US? Thats absurd. I think FL is just as bad if not WORSE than most places.
