Commercial Superintendant Sales Commision?
ok, i am a commercial construction superintendant in sacramento california. we mostly do tennant improvments and at least 50% of our work comes from accounts that are already esablished. it is a reletively small buisness that has grown from, owner +2 superintendants to, owner + partner and 5 superindendants in the past 2 years. i am the longest current employee having been there 3 years.
i am a very customer service oriented superintendant doing more than day to day supervision but also building relationships with owners and clients, participating in sales, bids, etc. i would like to grow with the company and move beyond strictly field supervision. sorry for all that but it relates to my question... one of my personal contacts has moved to a new company and contacted me to bid on a job with basicly a 100% chance of getting it and a very good possibility of becoming their 'prefered contractor' giving us jobs on a regular basis. although i do whatever i can to grow the company, i feel i should receive some compensation if i land an account like this but there is no basis in my job description and i have no familiarity in this type of thing. i don't want to give it away but i don't want to get greedy and ask for too much. should i ask for a % of all work we get? if so how much? should i ask for extra bonuses or an increased salary instead? i'm not a sales rep and i would be running any jobs we receive through them with my regular compensation but the only reason we would land this account is through my personal relationships. if anyone has any help it would be greatly appreciated. thanks |

Don't go posting the same topic all over the forum, please. I see it in 3 sections so far.
Ask them how much they will pay you before you bring it in to the company and be sure to include residuals from on-going work. If they are not interested, ask another firm you are familiar with. Ed |

I think 10% of the profit off the job is fair as well as any others under the same banner.

10% of Gross Profit, maybe. 1 or 2 % of contract total, provided they pay in a timely fashion.
