Changing Name Of Co?

My company name is so long and I have to write it all the time. I want to use the first initials of the the name of my co (S&S Plumbing) for check writing and things of that nature, and the old long name on ads. I would like to keep my old name, but also use the short version. Does anyone know if I have to get another dba for the new version so I can accept checks without my bank giving me a hard time, and will this give me any legal trouble in the future? Thought I'd run that by you guys and gals before I spent half a day on the phone trying to get answers
I know I sound lazy not wanting to write it or wait for the customer to write it out. I also hate having to say the entire name when I answer the phone. S&S would be so much easier, and I would not have to squeeze it on to my bank deposit slips

You just just be able to work it out with the bank to accept checks in that name without changing the business name.

If you want to confuse the pubic, your heading the right direction, Your company name is what you should have on the cheques, carry a stamp if it is to hard for people to write it out. Or change the name to something simple....but to have more then one name is not good for business. "KISS keep it simple stupid" You could probably come up with ten better reasons for not doing what you propose compared with the one “it take to long to write a cheque”.

I used to have my hair cut at a place called "Country Cuts and Curls by Beth". It was always abbreviqated on checks as CCCBB.

Changing a company name is worrysome stuff. I have changed what I do as a GC from additions and renovations to interior finishing such as kitchen, bath, trim ect. But kept the same name and I still get calls now and then from someone who remembers the name from years back. I dont see a problem with what you want to do, but your name is an important asset to you.
