Chamber Of Commerce Membership

I just bought a property not far from where our house is.
I'd love to get work out there.
Since we don't know anyone in that area, I was contemplating joining their Chamber of Commerce to network with people and possibly drum up business.

Just wanted to hear some feedback from others on their experiences with it.

Re: Chamber Of Commerce Membership

Don't expect it to make a big difference but consider it a way to network with other local business people. If you can afford the usually low cost of admission it will eventually at least pay for itself in work. I consider it an advertising expense. Part of the budget.

I find that if you plan on being active in the community it is beneficial - but if you are joining a far away chamber, probably not so beneficial.

Join where you live or work significantly - other than that, naw.

You will hear conflicting feedback
What it comes down to is:

A lot depends on the local chapter
Some suck
Some are great

And of course there is what you make of it

You can hang around the main office, get some pamphlets, and call some of the guys/gals that are members and ask them how the chapter is
(especially those that might do business with you...tool shops, printers, ins. co., banks, etc...)

I just joined my local Chamber. For the price, it's a cheap ad.

Actually, I gave a bid on work next door to the Chamber today and figured since I'm there, why not.

I want to do that breakfast thing. I like "free" food.

I'm very active with my local chamber. I attend all the meetings, chair several committees and go to the funtions. That's where the networking comes in. A few of the other contractors and realtors belong but never attend anything. So they constantly bitch that they get nothing from it.

You only get out what you put in.

I like that. My goal as a member will be to take over the leadership.
