It all depends on what you want out of it. Will your business benefit from networking with other business people?

A five-line sentence from someone whose 'shift' key doesn't work. Is that a record for Contractor Talk?

I heard that at our chamber of commerce you can get access to benefits. Also if they recommend someone it's usually someone who's connected through the chamber.

Re: Chamber Of Commerce

I checked into the chamber, it seem to be a good network of people in this area. I normally work for a few builders and by word of mouth. I think it is time to branch out and start advertising, this would be a good place to start. Sorry about the run on sentence, i was on a rum rage.

Re: Chamber Of Commerce

Just picked up thier pamphlet for my local chamber, was something I was pondering for years now... Have read all the materials inside, seems ok. Membership for me is only $17.ish / month...

we'll see how it goes.

Couple of things I read that membership includes.

listing in membership book
link to webpage
breakfast / lunch / golf tourny's
few cents off at select gas pumps
deals for cell phones
corporate rates for Visa/Mastercard 1.ish %
referral programs
other deals / coupons for members only
Benefit plans

Re: Chamber Of Commerce

Our chamber offers the same things as well. They also include a half page add in the newspaper when you join. We pay an annual rate, its around $300.00. They are having a community show for all the businesses in March, and if you are a member the price for the 8x10 area is $50.00 less then for non members. i think this will be good investment for the future of my business.

Re: Chamber Of Commerce

I joined the Chamber, here the rule is that if someone calls they refer a chamber member, if they need work they (the Chamber) have to use a member if there is one. Just good Buisness and it doesnt cost much. It gives you an oportunity to meet new people in the area that can get you more buisness. Maybe they heard your name but didnt know just what you did. There are losts of after hours event you can promote youre buisness that way. You can get many bigger better jobs that way as the members or a group of professionals, they will most likely get you some jobs. Wether it be a real estate agent needing a contractor to fix something on a house they have listed, repaint or maybe they sold a house and the new owners want to remodel the house. I just think being a chamber member is a no brainer. Jackie

Re: Chamber Of Commerce

The Chamber will work for you if you'll show up and shake the hands. By the way, have a biz card on the left hand and give it to them after you shake theirs.

Some of my best contacts and jobs came through the Chamber.

If you join and never go to the functions, it doesn't work well.

Re: Chamber Of Commerce

The functions and networking groups in our area require that bring atleast one qualified lead for one of the other person(s) in that particular group.

Sounds easy, but what if its not?
