Billing

How do you guys and gals do your billing. Do you do it yourself, or do you have someone else do it for you. I do billing here in Western NY for a bunch of local contractors and they tell me that it saves them a ton of time and they can spend more time on the job. Is that what you guys think?

Re: Billing

Depends on your business type but I would say most guys here manage their own accounts recieveables. I have a book keeper who comes in twice weekly and handles all the other accounting for me. Yes it saves me a Ton of time.

When it comes to the accounts reciveables I want to makes sure we have an accurate invoice submitted every time. This is just because we do a few jobs a week so it's easy to invoice, and then the salesman picks up the money (in most cases).

If I were some kind of property maintenance contractor and had multiple crews working on multiple commercial buildings daily I suppose I'd need a billing service.

Re: Billing

I do all admin for K&R and also for another local General Contractor here in town. It free's them up to be on jobsites and out getting more leads. Not because I do it, but I highly recommend outsourcing admin duties, even if it's just one day a week for anyone who does both sides of the job. It's time consuming and requires being tied to a desk. We've also found an increase in leads when someone live is answering the phones. (not sure if it's just this area or general consenus but around here, if someone calls and gets a machine, they just go to the next listing until they find live service). Just some thoughts to consider.
