Bidding A New Construction Custom Window Job

We are bidding on a new 10k square foot home with over 70 windows. Most of our window bids have been for additions, so I am not sure what to charge per window on installation for something of this magnitude.

Would you all give a volume discount? Or would you charge regular pricing?

One contractor friend told us for something this large he would charge $50 per window for installation, but that seems low.....

What would you all charge for, say, a 6040 window install given that there are 70 of em?

Re: Bidding A New Construction Custom Window Job

Two ways to look at it. How long it actually takes, and how much is fair. Generally speaking, when we do siding and window jobs, we charge $50 to $100 a window, depending on the trim level, and any modifications to be made, since rarely will window installs go perfect. If there are more then 15 windows, I will (and some of you will scream) tell the HO the per window install will be less, (adjusted down) if we run into no problems. This also only applies if we are doing extensive other work on site.

Now to your issue...if this is new construction, you are talking about the easiest of easy installs....geez, what?...10 minutes a window? Unless there is a factor you are leaving out, and why are you doing only the window installs...did the framers forget how? I have never done that many, or worked a 10k sq/ft home before for that matter, but I guess you would or could hit it at $50 a window, and hit 4 an hour...make wages.

I agree with Joasis. My framers install the windows.

Are you providing the windows? Are you able a make a profit on the windows? If you are not providing the windows, who is responsible for damages and going back out to install the 1 or 2 that are damaged? Are you providing the flashing tape (the price keeps going up), and any other materials?

Re: Bidding A New Construction Custom Window Job

The framing in this place is done and is a shame as we would have LOVED to have had this part of it.

We are providing the windows and doing a 20% markup as we have a good deal with a window company. We are also providing tape and taking responsibility.

Thanks for the feedback so far, it is useful. Yes, I think $50 is too low, but you are right, our guys can do windows in their sleep - 4-5 an hour is about right.

10,000sq ft and 70 windows. There has to be some unusual circumstances to this job. Cost per is fine if your doing a rancher and everything is installed standing on the ground and each window is small enough for one man to handle.
Anything different and you need to consider extra.
