Architects And Time Frames

Is it just me or do architects have a hard time sticking to time frames. Maybe I am using the wrong ones. I have fired one architect for giving me the run around for over a month after giving me sketches. The other guy I have been waiting for a month which was supposed to be two weeks. Does anyone else have this problem? Another thing about a lot of architects is they want to constantly be stroked. They want to be told how great they are..its ridiculous. Or they want to design thing there way because they are the best. I need a draftman who could get it stamped thats what I need.

Yes, ONLINE drafting/architecture/proposal is the trend of future. Most are done by architecture drafting-software experts. No overheads, cheap, fast, inexpensive,...., but not much guaranteed?

I think you are looking for a building designer. Architects are usually alot more expensive and they really don't have the logical sense about them when it comes to building properly, not just for they style. There are some great building designers out there....me being one! Yellow pages will hold the building designers section I believe.

If you are looking for one in your area, try the AIBD.

You think Architects are bad, you should see some of the Engineers I have to deal with, it's the hurry and wait game constantly. I was held up for six weeks, ownr got pissed at me, thank God I document everything...Owner got right pissed at the Engineer and got me off the hook.

Depending on what you are trying to accomplish, try an 'undergrad' working at an Architects office, most will freelance after hours with the principals permission if the project is small enough to not effect the day to day operations of the firm.

Re: Architects And Time Frames

the problem is we need stamped drawings at the municipality. Could a building designer get them stamped. One architect I talked to the other day was trying to push green building on me after I told him the customer was on a tight budget, he refused to hear what I wanted the building to look like. It was very simple.

Re: Architects And Time Frames

you can get them stamped from an engineer. architects that do this are being unethical. it is frowned upon as "rubber stamping"

plan ahead though, just like anything else. find a small shop guy who can look through it and stamp it in a decent amount of time.

most people don't realize it's not an architects stamp that they really need, but an engineers'.

Re: Architects And Time Frames

If this was your first time seeking an architect odds are pretty good you'll find a dud - takes time to find the right guy. They are out there. If your project is small, use a small firm. If your building is classified as assembly you will need an architect plus an engineer. Hope this help.
