Anti Rejection Letter?

What would you think if you got this letter in the mail:

Dear Mr. Shunk:

Thank you for the interview January 9th and your letter January 14th. After careful consideration, I regret to inform you that I am unable to accept your letter of refusal to offer me employment with your firm.

So far, in the last few months, I have been particularly fortunate in receiving an unusually high number of rejection calls and letters. With such a promising field of potential employers, it is impossible for me to continue to accept refusals.

Despite your personal outstanding reputation and previous experience in rejecting applicants, I find that your rejection does not meet my needs at this time. Therefore, I will initiate employment with your firm next Monday, January 30th. Please phone or email me with the required journeyman's tool list. I look forward towards a good day's work next Monday.

Best of luck rejecting other candidates,

Sincerely- Stephen E******.

Gotta give him extra points for guts, I guess?

Maybe Nightscape was right; perhaps electrician's are arrogant?

Sounds like he is really motivated to work and sick of getting rejected. That is a very funny letter....

Gotta give him credit for wit and nerve. Heck, I might be inclined to give this fellow a chance. A guy that ballsy might be an asset.
Very fricken funny, though.

With a bold follow up letter like that, how do you think the interview went?? For some strange reason, I object to a guy I just met telling me exactly how I should run things.

He's creative. I'm might hire him too. Unless he really appears too loose. Or you tell him I'll try you out--your first week is unpaid.

I would work for you then sue your bond.

the guy has got cajones, thats for sure. He probably will be trouble down the road, though - he needs to be self-employed like the rest of us

Ahhh, I see. I didn't think of that. I admire self-confidence and even ambition; but arrogance is another story altogether. I have often had to remind employees that my name on the lower right corner of their paycheck entitles me to expect them to do things MY way. No doubt, I would have a hard time giving a chance to a guy who, during the interview, tried to tell me how run my business; no matter how clever or determined he might be.

Still funny though.

What bond? What paycheck? What record of employment?? Though I can't really pass someone I haven't met yet--and only Shunk has.

Re: Anti Rejection Letter?

I dont' know where you live but here all I need is a record of my hours. Having home owner or a GC's super see you work helps too.
I don't need to tell you what happened to a foundo sub the other week when the GC found out he was paying all his guys cash. Fired and reported. That is why I try to stay out of the picture when the GC start snapping. Though I have nothing to fear.

Right.

I'd like the guy to at least work for me for a few weeks before he starts telling me how things ought to be.

Hey... I'm open minded to new ideas. If it's something I've never tried before, we'll give it a go. If it's something I've already tried or done, and dropped the practice, then I'll tell you your idea sucks and exactly why. Agressively exploring new trade practices, methods and materials is always a good idea.

Re: Anti Rejection Letter?

I would have asked him, if he knows so much and is so smart, why isn't he running his own business? Arrogance is almost always ignorance. I can't stand arrogant know-it-alls.

Send him a list of tools that takes up 10 pages. Make him spend $20,000 on tools for a minimum start up. Tell him he has got the job and be there promptly a 7:30 am Jan 30th 2010 and don't be late . And when he shows up on that date I think you should hire him.

Re: Anti Rejection Letter?

What startles me about the interview process is how some guys don't know when to be quiet. I mean, you're supposed to "sell yourself", and talk about positive things. Some guys feel the overwhelming need to tell you everything; good, bad, or otherwise. I felt like a priest during confession, and I'm not even Catholic. I should have had one or two of them saying a few hail Mary's when the interview was over.

Re: Anti Rejection Letter?

I'm kinda curious why he has had so many rejections (attitude maybe?).

Tell him to come down here, he'd be hired without an interview just for looking like an electrician.

Re: Anti Rejection Letter?

Sounds like a nut job. I would send him a certified letter confirming that he is not hired and should not show up at any of your job sites.
