Accounting Software

What accounting software are other builder's using? I don't see the need for quickbooks since I only get paid a few times a year when I sell a house. I am mostly interested in tracking subcontractors and issuing 1099's at the end of the project.

Is everyone else just tracking this information in excel then filling out the 1099 the old fashion way?

I use Wave Accounting, it's free. I understand Xero is a solid program as well.

Re: Accounting Software

I am using Quickbooks. Before I was using it, my accountant was using it.

You may only get paid a few times a year, but you pay out almost everyday. This allows you to keep track of all expenditures. You can print off a Financial statement, anytime. Once you information is in there, you only need to click a few buttons to get your 1099s.

If you don't see a need for Quickbooks, I assume you don't have an accounting system now. So does your accountant do the work? Which is fine. I did it that way for 28 years. Somebody has to be doing them.

I see you are in Ft Worth, there is a nice lady in Austin who wrote what I think is the best software for custom builders and remodelers. I've been using it for 15 yrs and it is excellent. You might check it out, her name is Carol King and the software is Custom Home Builders Solution, CHS. I think there are 300-400 builders using it.
