2007 Business Plan
Has anyone put their business plan together for 2006?
What do you include in your plan?
These are some of the things that we include in our plan........
What are our Sales Goals for week, month and year?
How many salesmen do we need?
How and where will we find these salesmen?
What will our closing rate be?
How many leads do you need per day, week, month and year to hit our sales goals?
How will you get those leads?
Marketing plan broken down by week, month and year
What are our Production goals for week, month and year?
How many crews will we need
How and where will we find these crews
What are your critical success factors?
What are your points of differences?
What is our estimated overhead?
What is our break even?
Just a few things to think about. I would love to here more about this. Our plan is done but it could always be tweaked.

Unfortunately I've let my company dwindle away over the past year or so, and am down to the one man show again. (I've done this 3 times now ) But, I have been toying with the idea of building it up again next year. If I don't choose to move, I probably will be planning it out a lot better than I've done in the past. I'm famous for flying by the seat of my pants until it all crashes down around me. Hopefully next year will be a better one. I'm definitely jealous of you guys that have most of your ducks in a row.

I tend to modify my business plan every 6 months just to see where my company is at, and ways to become more efficient and profitable. Although my company is still small, Ive got big plans. Although sometimes it becomes a challenge to keep up with some goals I set out months ago.

I'm in the process of finishing my 2007 plan. I started nearly a month earlier this year and it's made a big difference. I've been less rushed to finish it, and I can start implementing sooner (already started).
I've included nearly everything Marc has, except critical success factors and points of difference.
Two items I've included not on Marc's list are a training schedule and administrative goals.

We have 1 million contractors in the Bay Area
So a big part of ours is how we are going to differentiate ourselves from the competition.
I also include a marketing and advertising plan, and a Capex spending plan.

CAPEX: (Capital Expenditure) Money spent to acquire or upgrade physical assets such as buildings and machinery. This tends to be a very large expense for companies with significant manufacturing facilities, and usually much less of an expense in the services sector. also called capital spending or capital expense.

I'm not convinced of the usefulness of detailed plans, except for large organizations where many people will be involved in decision making.
Some general directions are a good idea, but business is in essence a competition, and although you can plan what you are going to do, you can't plan what your competition and your customers are going to do.
You also can't plan ahead of time for the unexpected. An example, halfway through the year the business occupying the building next to mine decided to close down despite having years of lease to run. It was an excellent opportunity for us to take it over and install a showroom and extra workspace-storage. There was no way I could have 'planned' that.

If I made a plan for 2007 it would have to be "quit smoking cigars"
Lay off fatty foods!
Oh thats resolutions......
My plan for 2007.
Keep the business in "Houston" paying my bills and work on developing the vacation rental homes.
Lay the ground work for the next two later in the year.
Have sales meetings every week at my favorite restaurants.
Not invite any employees to the sales meetings.
Try to up my profits as much as possible. If this means loosing some customers then thats o.k.
Get rid of the few remaining pain in the ass customers and swear not to replace them.
Tighten up with my main guy. He has run the work side of the business for the last 5 years and is getting a tad bit comfortable
Get my wife away from the bookeeping. This is the one that will never happen but it is okay to dream

2007 should be one hell of a year for my company. I'm sorta changing the direction of my company. Going from landscape construction to fiberglass pools. Looking to only due landscaping around the pools i install. I'm adding a office/showroom and hiring a salesman. I got a great manufacturer behind me and i belive there product is the best in the country.
I'm looking to pick up a spa line to also sell. Hopefully by the end of the year i can get into bbq grill and patio funiture sales. For some reason, i got the ambition to try to get a decent retail business going also.
Hopefully i can go from being a laborer/salesmen/bookeeper/mechanic to being just a business owner.

Here is mine for 07'
1. Build and sell 6 spec homes between $400k and $600k.
2. Do $500,000. sales in remodels/additions (have $148k booked already).
3. Hire 4 more employees (1 foreman, 1 carpenter, 1 laborer and a bookeeper).
4. Become fully hands off (in the field) by the end of the year.
5. Purchase 2 rental homes or 1 small apartment complex.
6. Become much more knowledgeable as a business man as opposed to a tradesman.
7. Buy or lease a new sprinter van.
8. New company branding platform complete with website, new graphics, logos, uniforms, business cards, etc...
9. Sit down and do a formal business plan with researched info rather than a wish list.
