You Ever See One That Just Totally Takes The Cake
Here's the rundown:
HO calls and says roof is leaking. It's a small part thats been tarpped for 2 years. I go out to take a look. First thing I notice is roof has 6 layers on one of the bump outs they didn't put rake on. SO I go up to peak under tarp and what do I see? Little pieces of rotted osb everywhere!! I pull up a shingle next to the tarp and low and behold they ran osb over 4 layers of shingle and one of shakes. Guy who did it ten years ago is out of business. They are selling the house and just want a fix. I bid it but not sure if they are going with it because I'm sure someone will just flub it up cheap to get em by. Never saw that before . Have you?? |

Most I have tore off was 5 plus shakes, seen one layer of ply over another layer of ply, shingles over slate, sheeting over shakes, sheeting over shingles as well. There are lots of idiots out there, homeowners and carpenters.

I am assuming the only option you are giving them is a complete tearoff.
Seen the sheeting over existing roofs more than once. I stopped being suprised years ago. Worst I've had is a crappy metal roof over six layers over one layer wood shingle. They actually used six inch screws to put the metal on. |

Re: You Ever See One That Just Totally Takes The Cake
Honestly, it's not that hard to tear off a few layers of shingles. Most of the cost and labor is assumed from the cost of the OSB and the labor to install it. I actually like tearing off some days, turn off the brain and monkey em off, no thinking involved, almost relaxing.
They must have had to use 5" screws to hold that OSB down, going though all that material. |
