UNfortunately, alot of Florida has been scammed by shady roofers because of the 'canes, that's probably a good part of it.

Roofers and those imitating them were the worst. A lot of legit co's. overextended themselves. Some guys just had some forms printed and went out and got deposits. I have a friend in her late 60's who was scammed by one of the latter, she finally got her roof this week after having to get a job and save for almost 2 yrs. BTW, that guy is still behind bars.

Now mix in the hurricanes which brings in transient contractors who may offer a warranty but dissapear after the work dries up.

One thing is for sure, if you don't apply you will not get licensed. What does it hurt to TRY? That was 5 years ago and someone once told me that that kind of stuff only stays on your report for 5 years, so maybe it's gone now?

A qualifying party can qualify another company, usually they want a percentage of your profits since technically you are working under their license and if you mess up, it's on them.

Bankruptcy stays on your record for 10 years. It depends on the lender if they care or not about it after 5 or so but it is there for 10.

I'm almost 100% sure you can work under his license, however you'll be under his gun, ya better be able to trust him.

Contract time! Yours, not his. A little lawyer now can save you a bigger one later. Have everything in writing! I'm smelling snake oil.

I wish that Massachusetts had more restrictions on who could install roofs. It would help weed out some of the bad ones.

Jim restrictions are useless without enforcement. In FL you can and will do JAIL TIME for roofing without a license. In IL the worst that can happen is you can't get a building permit without a license.
