Who Has Experienced The Lawn Chair Guy?

Had at least 6-7 that i remember sitting on whatever section is being worked on binoculars & all. Kinda funny actually as i have never had anything to hide but i can tell between the curious or the suspicious kind.

How bout the guy who climbs up your ladder & is chit chattin while your trying to get some pain in the a** thing done sweating etc.?

I do have some patience but he better hope i'm not upset about something.

About 10 years ago this guy was just nagging & nagging but wouldn't get on the roof, just nagging from the ground every 5 minutes literally when he asked if i could come down i just jumped off toward him (about 15ft which i would normally never do) & said yes what now? I think he figured it out from that point he was driving me insane

Re: Who Has Experienced The Lawn Chair Guy?

I got one for you...we were doing a tear-off.

This lady decides to come out on her patio,
set up a lawn chair on top of my tarps and on some of the debris we already had there and take a sun tan.

I didn't know she was there.

I was about 2 buildings away and I (for the heck of it) launch a fury of nails across the way towards the balcony she was sitting on. I held back the tip of my gun, pulled and held the trigger..."zip, zip, zip, zip, zip, zip..." in rapid succession fired right ON TOP of her!

She's screaming "Hey! What da' F! Ahhhhhhh!"

It was hilarious!

She started yelling and luckily the Super was walking by (of the buildings) and started yelling back at her in a thick accent:

"R ju crasee?
Whot's da' mattah weeth U?
How Dee hell R Ju going to seet on top of a bunch of garbish to take a frickin' sun tan lady?
Get da' hell out of der!"

She tried to complain to the board, but they sided with me.
No one ever asked me why she got rained on with nails!

As for the other "spectators", I make sure that something "mistakenly" falls close enough to them to make them reconsider their place and they pick up there chairs and fold them up.

I was doing a roof tear off with a couple of my guys. Its about 90 in the shade and the HO brings out a small table and a few chairs, then she brings out a pitcher of something and glasses an sets it on the table.
I'm thinking, "what a sweetheart".
Then she goes in and comes out with the old man and her son, they sit down, pour out some lemonade and watch us tear off?

Yep...happened to me too.

One thing I noticed is that certain "ethnicities" are extremely courteous.

Italians, Germans, Irish, Spanish, I've almost always been treated to coffee, donoughts, actual lunches...very nice people.

They'd put out a spread for us.

You can almost count on it.

I'm the same way when anybody worked at my place.

Was the lady tanning at least something good to look at? Hope so. Most people are very cordial & stay out of the way but you always have that one guy sooner or later. I did a job for this architech guy that was just insane mailing me literally 60 pages of info of specs etc. before the job.

I added a good 2000.00 PIA fee for him

Well, on one tear-off we were doing in the heat of the summer, the homeowners and her friends decided it was time to sun-tan out by the pool topless.

I had a large connected together type family like that. Wheneven we did a member's roof, all the other members showed up and they had a "Roofing Party". Sometimes, before we noticed, they even sent the kids up on the 12/12 roofs with pitchers of tea and water! Nothing like a 12 y.o. girl tapping you on the shoulder 20' up to hand you a glass of tea!

Re: Who Has Experienced The Lawn Chair Guy?

My good day was the 20 year old that finished swimming in the pool, must have taken a shower & decided to lay on her bed completely naked blinds fully open. I wouldn't have known except for the fact we were tearing off the dormer that happenned to be her room. I had to inspect the roof to wall flashing at the window for quite some time!

Must say she was smokin too, with all the pounding goin on right above & around the room, she obviously wanted to be seen.

The home owners are never at home when we work. We may see them in the morning before they leave for work but i have never had a home owner watch us work.Even when they were home they would just stay in and do whatever they do inside their homes.

Leads to another question:

Ever "bang" a chick from the job (a customer)?

I have...several times.

And neither were old bags either.

Talk about getting a "tip"!

Must be where thoroughbred roofer comes from ey? Once had a HO that was recently retired that would stand so close to you that I literally would elbow him in the side every time I went in my pouch. He was also a chain smoker and I couldn't escape. Great guy otherwise, fed us snacks everyday and would not take no for an answer. Had a employee once that got tired of a HO telling him how to do it and asked the HO if he would like to show him how it was done. The HO put my guys pouch on and went right up the ladder! Did a fine job too. I blew snot and excused myself when my help asked the HO. My guy was very irritated at this point but quickly saw the humor when HO went up the ladder. The rest of that job was very entertaining.
