Water Stain Pipe Or Roof?

How do u tell if a water stain is from leaky pipe or from the roof? I checked out the roof and it looks good. How do check to see if a pipe is leaking?

Re: Water Stain Pipe Or Roof?

Water test the roof first above the pipe with a garden hose.

Let it saturate the roof over the suspicious area for several hours while monitoring the attic for moisture infiltration.

If no leaks develop, then water test the actual pipe, if you are speaking of a plumbing vent pipe. Do not force water into a b-vent or furnace pipe.

Before you go through that much time, see if any soldered joints on the pipe flashing have seperated.

The roof is new and I checked it out everything is flashed and capped correctly. Im not talking bout a vent pipe on a roof. I think it might possibly be inside plumbing. I was wondering how you check for that.
