Vinyl Window Installation
I am installing some vinyl windows for the first time and was surprised to see they say not to put any nails in the nailing fin within 25% of both the heigth and width of the window, not to exceed 10". If I am reading the instructions correctly, and I am, that means on a 20 X 40 inch window you are only able to nail the window on the sides 20" in the middle and 10" at the top and bottom. They say it is for expansion and contraction of the vinyl. We are in Kansas City but I find it hard to beileve the vinyl will expand that much. The windows appear to be a well built sturdy window but somehow this just doesn't make sense to me. Any one have any thoughts on this? Does vinyl really expand and contract that much?

Re: Vinyl Window Installation
4 nails for the entire window? something is not right. if there are no provisions for screws in the jam, i would nail off the window in a normal fashion, just be sure not to send the nails home (super tight) just set them gently. welcome to ct, good luck

Re: Vinyl Window Installation
Like Gene said. I level and check for square and only attach top 1/4, then slide in my flashing and nail the rest of the flanges gently.
