This may be a valid argument for Tesla model 3, but not for the solar roof.

The stakes are much, much higher, there is a lot to lose with solar delay/fail, but not much cushion. You have $4B in debt that came with the acquisition of solar city, and company is bleeding money like crazy.

Joking aside, I applaud his effort to throw huge money at revolutionary ideas and products. Somebody has to think outside of the box to revolutionize industries

I don't think so, but his rockets have been used for supplying the space station I do believe.

One of Branson's prototypes crashed and killed the test pilot.

See you got your other thread closed.

It becomes clear now: Instead of seeing solar shingles as an opportunity - you see them as a threat to your business.

I'm surprised that ContractorTalk would let a Service Provider use their site as a propaganda machine.

Tesla can close.

There is still SunTegra and Certainteed.

And others will follow.

And others after them.

Not in your wildest dreams are solar shingles going to go away.

So adapt or die.

So far, you have started two threads only - and both have been to bash a specific product.

I've no respect for that. None.

That was a funny read. I checked the date, thinking it was an April 1st article, but nope, it's recent.

BTW, we got another new solar shingle manufacturer starting up right here in Rochester Michigan.

Called "Luma Solar"

Nifty looking, certainly better than the standard version...

Gotta' imagine those are not only much more costly to purchase and install, but maintain...

But it also ignores, and in this case, magnifies, issues with them... cleaning panels in general is important (depending on who you talk to, it should be every few weeks to quarterly to semi-annually) for them to maintain their efficiency...

But then again, you don't see these realities in the brochures or websites...

Traditional solar panels also create nest havens for birds if you don't put the unsightly mesh up to block them from doing it...

Of course if you do that, then you create other maintenance problems for yourself, because things like to get into small places, from debris to wasp and other infestations...

Traditional solar panels also create ideal perches for birds to sit and do their business on both the panel AND accumulate at the regular roof line....

Now, as nifty as the above roof looks, just imagine what it would cost to clean or the amount of effort to do so considering the smaller areas to work on....

You don't see any of THAT on that nifty website, now do you?

I guess it would be interesting to know of those who keep promoting this as one of the answers to save the environment, saves you money, a no-brainer, etc...

How many of you have switched over to all electric vehicles and gone all solar? They're both available...

Re: Tesla Solar Roof And Energy Business Narrative Continues To Fall Apart

Those are after long periods of time and part of general maintenance and wear and tear of any home... the solar requires LOTS more maintenance and that nifty version of solar is one step closer to removing some of the issues with traditional solar, but then presents its own issues...

But you know this because you have solar on your home and have EV's already because both pay for themselves, save the environment, no-brainer etc,, right?... Either that, or feel free to explain why it's good for everyone else just not you...

By real-world comparison, my current roof has only needed to be cleaned once since new and we're in double-digits and cost me around $175 and I don't have to look at those ugly panels on the roof...

All I'm saying is there's a heck of a lot more to the story when you really look into it (can you tel yet we have?) that they're not going to SELL you on...

Re: Tesla Solar Roof And Energy Business Narrative Continues To Fall Apart

I agree that solar panels have lots of hidden costs. I think Tesla solution is interesting but I really doubt it is going to offset the cost of the standard shingles. Not surprised they are late as always and I think anyone in their right mind would want one full life cycle before committing this to their own house as a reroof solution
