staging on 12/12 pitch

I have to replace metal ridge cap on 12/12 pitch. What is the best setup for a working platform? My hope is to work both sides from one side. This is bush Alaska so access to equipment rental is minimal.

tks

I often use 'vise-tongs' to work them. No specifics come to mind. I just do what seems safe.

Depends how tall but if it's a 1 story I often put a 40' ladder leaning against the roof slope and braced against the ground. That's not feasable if it's taller than a 1 story. In that case you probably want to nail up toe-boards spaced not more than 4' apart following the rafter up. Once your at the ridge, ride it like a saddle.

just curious as to why the pic at the eve? If he is working at the peak all he would need is the fist toe board up and set the ladder on that then run toe boards to peak to work off of. Just seems the the pic is unneeded

Hello,

You should call Spenard Building Supply and see if they can ship you some 2x6 roof jacks. They may cost a little with the shipping but you would have them for any other repairs you need to do in the future.
Depending on the length of your roof(from eave to ridge) and the width should determine how many you would need... one 4 to 6 foot 2x6 starting at the eave using 2 roof jacks. Installing 2x6s every 6 to 8 feet until you get to the ridge area. Then enough2x6 and jacks to go the width of your house. Using a 16 foot 2x6 you should use 4 roof jacks but could get away with just 3.
Hope this is helpful.
