Some Nice Pictures

http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/20294541

We bid the siding and roof on this house someone else did the roof for half our price, and we did the siding. Water is now pouring in all over the house. Im thinking a whole new roof here, there are exposed nails everywhere along both sides of the ridge. and they are scattered all over the field

Re: Some Nice Pictures

By looking at that skylight flashing, you'd have to ask yourself, "how could that not leak".

Re: Some Nice Pictures

the siding looks good though right? Sorry, as bad as it is for the homeowner its a real ego booster for me every time these things happen this is the 3rd time in two months we have been called back by a homeowner that decided to go with another company for the roof

Re: Some Nice Pictures

The exposed nails won't leak....
for a while.
Whoever, needs to concentrate on
documenting the flashing, valleys,
and penetrations.
From what I can see, and their total
inability to even place nails, those details
are where the immediate problems are.
Yes, tear-off and re-roof is the cure.

Surely the lawyers can't be far away.

Ummm, wow???

As usual, you get what you pay for. Lemme guess, HO can't find the contractor? Don't feel sorry for them though.
Tell em now you can add 200/sq to your original price to tear it off and you'll do it right.

Appears the contractor was a "buddy" that "does that kinda stuff on the side" I jokingly told the HO that our price would be slightly less since its now only a one layer tear off!!!! However shingles costs have skyrocketed since

Every time this happens, we get the small solace that the owner regretted their decision. Unfortunately, this doesn't put cash in our pockets.

Re: Some Nice Pictures

Well, they got what they paid for. Half-price on the roof and only 1/2 of it leaks. The half they paid for is fine. What's the problem?

Re: Some Nice Pictures

Same crap happens around here all the time, especially with the storm jobbers, weekend warriors, and scab workers. It's funny how the union guys turn into the scabs on the weekends when you have a storm.
Goes both ways though. I have pics from a job we did that ABC did the seamless siding. They used no J-channel where the wall met the roof over the flashing. They made a continuous flashing under the siding, on the roof and just caulked all of it down. What a stinkin' mess they had.

Sometimes the homeowner gets what they deserve and I hope it gets passed around quickly that they hired the wrong (cheapest) guy.

It never seems to do any good though. I recently did a job for a customer at a price that was twice the rate he was previously charged for the same job, but had ripped the work down because it "looked like crap". However, when he saw my estimate for another job come in 50% higher than his expectation based on his budget(which he previously refused to disclose) he said he would need to get other estimates....go figure.

Re: Some Nice Pictures

maybe Ive done too many metal roofs but shouldnt the lower 1/2 of the roof jack be ontop of the lower coarses of shingles?

Other then that it looks like good tweaker work.

Siding looks good tho

Re: Some Nice Pictures

Love it!

That's one of those that after you land it, you're tempted to turn into a "project profile" - it would read something like:
Customer got bids
Customer picked lowest bidder from tweaker in 12 year old, unmarked, rusting pickup (with beer cans in the back).
Customer paid for the materials at roof supply yard himself
Customer replaced two Pirellis on his Benz as tweaker didn't see the 3 rusty nails after tear off
Customer's driveway scratched by dumpster
Customer's son found nails in the rear yard ... by stepping on them.

Customer called back the roofer that the neighbor recommended (us) for repair work due to leaks & falling sheetrock; tweaker not found, and cell phone just goes to voicemail (because he's in the local jail, and no one has charged his cell phone - in evidence bag)

Customer wants a repair - as 1/2 of the roof apparently doesn't leak. "Can't you just fix the small area that is leaking" aka ... don't you want a piece of the liability so I can sue you ... as you're actually reputable.

That would make a great section on a website ...
