Re: Sliding On Roof

Hi roofer guys My roofer neighbor uses a "seat" He takes an 8x8" and cuts it off at a 45 degree angle. Then he covers it with carpet. Believe it or not, he can sit on this on a shingle roof and not slide off. So the carpet is touching the roof and he gets to sit on carpet too.

Not sure how well that would work on bare sheathing though. The cushions will stay put on the slipperiest of sheathing, on a very steep roof takes a bit to get comfortable with it though

I wouldn't suggest this on plywood. He only uses this on top of shingles he's already laid. As a carpenter, the best shoes for use on plywood have a crepe sole.

Re: Sliding On Roof

I knew a roofer that did Cedar roofing and they made roof seats out of two angled pieces of 2x material and a small piece of plywood. to the bottom of the 2x they would screw old fashioned can openers (Church Key) with the point facing down. It will grip oin plywood qnd cedar but would probably ( Will ) F**k up on asphalt shingles. If you can't find old couch cushions you can buy new foam from a fabric store. just make sure you get 2 pieces per man ( one for knees and one for feet) that way you can leap frog them up the roof.

I like 'Saf-t-Trax' osha approved resturant worker's shoes. Many little serrated traction cleats.

Re: Sliding On Roof

There are these things I think they are called walkers you strap to the bottom of your boots. It prevents you from slipping and loosing grip. I think theIy are like 20 bucks or something but I have never tried them on a shingled roof before.

The best shoes are rubber sole running shoes. Hope this helps...
