Shingling A Hip Roof

What are the methods you guys use to shingle hip roofs? I was thinking about starting in the middle and working toward the hip. Is this a good idea or is it better to go left to right or right to left?

Re: Shingling A Hip Roof

Are you being serious? A roofer would lay it the same way you would lay a gable roof. Pick a side, any side...the back side of the wrapper will show you.

How do you lay a gable roof?

In order to create less waste I cut my courses in thirds and start on the left and work to the right.

Re: Shingling A Hip Roof

Should be no waste with dimensionals your cut offs at the hip will fill the opposite side.

I hate when people just nail them over creating a lumpy hip caps.

If your right handed start on the left, if your left handed, learn to be right handed and start of the left.
