Douger, It doesnt make you a good contractor to pass the tests, I agree. However it weeds the stubborn contractors or the careless contractors out from the contractors willing to do things the right way. What I am saying is a scum bag isn't going to bother with a license. (I'm not syaing your father is a scum bad. I'm sure he falls into the stubborn catgory )

I am a believer in contractor licensing. I believe many of us are professionals in as high a caliber as a doctor, lawyer, or engineer. Why should we not be licensed like the other professionals? In the state of IL residential contractors and builders (as a whole) are rated as the #3 worst industy. This is not trust encouraging to consumers.

Re: Shingles Nailed Above Nail Line.. Help!!

the tape mentioned is called RELEASE TAPE
its only purpose is to keep the shingles from sticking together when they are in the package
once the shingles are installed the release tape plays absolutely no part of the roof system

what i really think is funny:
every bundle has a set of installation instructions on it, which is written usually in 2 languages, also pictures are used for those who cannot read
if it was a 30 square roof there was 90 bundles which means 90 sets of instructions w/pictures.
