Question

Shingle Shears

I am wondering if anyone has used a shingle shear. Are they worth the expense? Do they speed up production? Do they cut arch. shingles ok?

Two models I've found are the Qual-craft and Howard, both on Amazon.

Any experience, pros or cons, would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Ryan

Re: Shingle Shears

Hello,

We use one at our company for the really thick shingles (i.e. Presidentials, Pabco Advantages). I just use an old pair of snips to cut laminates.

Re: Shingle Shears

The one we have is the Shingle Shear brand. It works great in the winter for laminates. It may be a little clumbersome in tight areas, but can come in handy. If you have another guy laying out for you, he can cut all the starter and rake shingles on the ends before you get there. The part I don't like about ours is it has standard (not metric) measurements on it and now all our shingles are metric.

Thanks guys for your input. I have a 40 sq. roof to start next week and was looking for ways to speed work up to beat the cold weather.
