shingle cracks

Anyone seen the cracks that run straight up and down the certainteed shingles? Many lawsuits around the country. The homeowners association is having trouble getting a settlement from the manufacturer. The have asked me to temp in a sealant into the cracks for now. (Henry has a clear product thats flexible and bonds well. (212 crystal clear roof patch) Anyone use it? and what about the shingle warrenty? Vern

I am not aware of the problem except Horizon shingles have been known to have surface cracks. THese cracks did not go throught the shinlge.

Can you psot a picture?
What shingle is it?

I've not had very many problems with their shinlges.

How about posing a fake scenario, that could be traced back to a realistic situation and covertly plant an ad for the product he is trying to sell, so that other roofers are not suspicious of his motives?

Yeah, thats a great idea!!!

I wonder why no one ever tried that out before in any forums.

Now, that may of course not be true in this case and this poster may just be naive, but it does set some bells off on some peoples Troll Alert, or Spam Alarm.

There is one of these posts about every quarter.

I'm sorry if I'm wrong, but my "troll alarm" comes in because I'm a mod on another forum.

Not really related, but there are two...... GM-trucks.com and a local atv forum that just started for my state.

My name is "Roofer" at both sites.

We have not seen problems with Certainteed, but Owens Corning has replaced over 10 roofs for me that shingles failed. They were Oakridge 30 from back in the late 90's. They will crack horizontal though. This was a result of OC using glue that set the shingles to snug, with no movement they crack. OC did send homeowners check for replacing materials but no labor.

We had one, about 25 years ago.Weathered wood or something like that I think.Cracks showed up after about 12 to 15 years. Certainteed did warranty the shingles, but on a pro-rated basis,so we only got about 40% of the replacement cost.I would never have considered patching the shingles with sealant for anything but a short term repair.
