Looks sloppy IMO. Good chance it will be watertight though. Some closeup shots of the details and terminations would tell more. When I see lap seal on the seam of non reinforced it makes me nervous. Is that just gobs of lap seal on the Tbar?

I just cant get a good look.

I thought it looked sloppy too but I can tend to be pretty critical so I thought I'd post a neutral question.

Yes, it is gobs of lap seal on the bar which really stinks because you can see it easily from the ground.

The lap seal was new rubber going over existing, is there a better way it should have been done? Just curious.

As long as it doesn't leak I won't bitch too much.

Was The seam Taped or Black Glued?

I think if that tbar were visible, I might consider a nice counterflashing.

I think the seam was glued, not sure though, I wasn't watching them do it.

tarface-what system would you have used?

The roof is not highly visible from the ground, just the part that goes up the chimney.

I dont like term bar at all. surface mounted counterflashing looks 100 times better.

Anice counter with some pewter or grey solar seal along the top would look nice .Yes it is a mess when you cutt your epdm [see top area] for tape i have my guys snap a line so its not jagged and chimm area could you have cutt out the old and the old stone to make it flat?I did one last yr like that and i cutt the stone out down to the wire then plywood was added for a smoother transition because it was noticeable from the deck. Now that i look at the chimm that was not possible but it still should of laid flatter.

Saddest part of all is I got a ref on this roofer by my usual and usually reliable method of asking at the supply house counter for "a good roofer, not concerned w/ price so much as quality". He was not cheap either.

tiny: the area against the chimney where the epdm is not laying flat isn't because of the rocks sticking out, it's just hanging loose away from the chimney. The piece they ripped off to replace was flat (and caulked neatly).

One thing is for sure, that Termination Bar should NOT be caulked with lap caulk. It should have water stop behind it and a good urethane such as NP-1 or vulkem on top. That lap caulk wont last a year on that bar. It is not made for vertical surfaces. Thats why it is already running down the wall.

Looks TERRIBLE.

I'd send that photo the manufacturer rep of the material and ask for an opinion.

I hate to say it, but there is NO WAY I would have paid the last check until it was tuned up.

Lap sealant is used on top of tbar. But not by the gallon.
A reglet metal should be installed over the bar and the roof will be fine. That is if the seam was done with glue or tape prior to caulking.
