Rubber Roof Codes...

I been working on rubber roofs for the past couple weeks at work, and a question came up. When you patch a rubber roof with rubber, you use primer all around the perimeter on the ground. Follow that with your 3 or 6 inch seam tape. Put yellow glue in the center on the ground and the piece of rubber. Primer the perimter of the piece of rubber as well. If there are any T-joints, a 6x6 piece of elastic foam. Lap sealant on the edges for more protection.

Now the question comes in on the four corners. I round them off because regular corners usually peal off, but thats the end of it. Thats the way I have done it for the past 4 years as well as everyone that I know. I just got a new foreman that was angry because I didn't put 6x6 pieces of elastic foam on the four corners. He says it is now required in order to pass inspection. I did it anyway, cause he's in charge and not me, butI asked around and everyone I asked has never heard of it.

I know the codes change all the time, but has anyone heard of this? Just curious.

Yellow glue is for attachment to the deck. Black is for rubber to rubber.

"6x6 piece of elastic foam." Are you talking aboout uncured? It's a good idea, even if not required.

FWIW- If you don't have a firm grqsp of what is right or wrong on a roof system, but rely on the employee knowing, you may be in for a world of grief. Not necessisarily, but more likely than not.

Re: Rubber Roof Codes...

sounds to me like you better stay away from rubber roofs. They can be the best or worst flat roofs. There is no substitute for experience and training. If you dont have that then dont do it.

Re: Rubber Roof Codes...

Hello,

When we do rubber to rubber repairs we always use a membrane cleaner first otherwise the glue could possibly not stick.
