I saw his site a long time ago and he does a masterful job of documentation, plus spams certain other forums with the posting of his site posed as a question for others to draw their attenton.

I pity anyone who screws that guy over.

looks like a mess, and that the crew was not qualified for the work, but also seems the h/o was a nightmare in his own right, the job looked like it should take 4-5 days tops

I don't believe that price wasn't the determining factor.

A shingle overlay on a shake roof? He had to get recommendations to do a tear off. I believe the owner started with CHEAP in mind.

No roofer should have sold this job. A shingle overlay over an old shake roof is asking for problems

No owner should have bought this job.

He needed a bigger sign!

I can totally relate to that HO.
I hired a fence co. to put up appx. 160' of PVC fence...their estimate: 2 weeks ~ the reality: about 4 months ....and the job was never 100% completed by them.

If you look at the pictures, those guys are obviously not roofers. This is the problem when companies get too big. They hire people that don't know what they are doing. Where is the boss? Who is the professional?
Since we went from 7-8 guys down to 2-4, we have way less problems and the homeowner gets a better job. It's easier when the boss is on the job every day and everything is overlooked by a pro.

No knee pads, bostich guns, working off of a ladder, wood handled hammers, harnesses on a 5/12 pitch, their gloves, their shoes, their clothes, the mess they have on the roof, lifting shingles that are already laid down, multiple guys on the roof without even a tool belt, guys that are obviously way too far out of shape to do anything........I could go on and on...........

Oh, and who runs a hose from the compressor in the truck out on the road! LOL!!

This is a hack job from a company that uses high end shingles and a big name.

So now I know

Honestly...my first thought was: Are these guys framers?

This guy looks like he has all the right props:

Safety Glasses
Harness
Coil (?) nailer
Cool Side burns

I don't see a starter under the shingles on the right hand side of the hip and why did he have to re-do the bottom of the hip anyways? I forgot since it has been so long and I would really prefer not to have to read through that entire post with all of his side bar links to additional information.

By the way, you forgot to mention the earing too.

most times, we are both the same person...framers and half wits LOL.

I myself never did much roofing...but I know you start...at the bottom...and go.....up!

I thought it looked like Washington. Soffits are unusual there, that's what threw me.

What's wrong with coil nailer? Except that it's a DeWalt.

Nothing wrong with the coil nailer, but yes, it's a dewalt. The others are bostich. Only framers and HO's use them. Most full-time roofers use Hitachi or better.

The answer is Zero. I have been a residential roofing salesman for seven years. I do look forward to going out on my own, in due time.
