Roof Tile Salvage?
Anyone have any thoughts on a roof tile salvage yard. This would be a place for other roofers to buy tile for repairs or addtions. Currently in florida we have a large number of tile roofs. When we replace these roofs we throw the tile away. Most dumps take it for free or very little $ and crush it to make road base. The tiles are in many different shapes and colors, therefore they are hard to find for repairs.
Does anyone think there is a market for this type of company? I hate to toss out so much tile if I could sell it later. Any thoughts or input on this would be appreciated. Thanks, James |

Re: Roof Tile Salvage?
When we sold our 2.5 acre yard, I had to hire a trucking company to haul off probably 1,000 + sqs or so of concrete and clay tile. I couldn't give it away! I even called all the roofing materials suppliers; They didn't want it!
There was, I'd say, a moderate market for it. We always had someone needing something or anotherr...and we didn't advertise at all. $ 5 - $ 10/tile. There'a a guy here that has a yard; Mostly historic clay though. There's also a salvage yard in Texas. If you have the Real Estate...most definitely! |

The largest one I know is Renaissance out of Rockford, but I am sure Mortenson and Keefer have a goodly supply too.

The hard part is keeping track of what you have and where it is at.
