Roof fans on sloped metal roofs.

I am an electrical contractor, who has for years installed roof fans in existing homes when requested to do so. Shinge roofs are simple enough, but metal roofs are gaining popularity. I don't do the roofing part of these fan installs on metal roofs, and have never gone to witness the installation process or the finished product. I generally run the wire in the attic, install a disconnect switch near the fan location, and leave the roof fan and a tail of wire for the roofer to finish it up when he completes the roof penetration.

What is the best way to install a roof fan on a corrugated type metal roof with pitches from 4/12 to 12/12? I get bills from the roof subs with material such as "curb kit", "curb material", and even bits of rubber roofing on the material list. Seems every guys must have his own style and preferred materials. My only instructions to the roof sub is that it "look nice" and "not leak".

How do you all go about it? I'd like to learn a little more about some of the typical installation methods.

If the opening is round, we use a "deck tight"...like a rubber condom with a soft aluminum ring that conforms to the metal profile. If it is square, we have the same deck tight in a square or we use a roof curb if the issue is keeping the fan level or it is a vent hood exhaust with a make up air system with it. Piece of cake, either way. You can go to dynamicfastener.com and see what they show in the catalog...very similar to what we use.
