Roof Detail Missing The Gutter

This is related to my last post about a shoddy roofing job on my parents house in NY...

A big part of their water damage issues are a result of this flat roof where water seems to be channeled to this flapping corner of EPDM (I think?).

It collects at that edge and shoots off, missing the gutter. I've made kick flashings but never dealt with flat roofing much.

Would an aluminum kick tucked under the rubber work, or just back up water under the roofing?

Bigger gutter( 6")that extends further until it hits the other shingles and drip edge might help with that one spot. Im assuming there is a reason why gutter is hanging very low. Some sort of metal might have to be bent if it still over shoots since so low.

Wow, that's crazy. I grew up here. They bought the house in 1986. It was a Great Depression special, scabbed together outbuildings from an old farm or estate. I wish I had more time to help them because they can't afford all the crap that needs to be done.

I leave tomorrow but at least I'll get some water issues fixed and flash, replace some rot.

Doing job in white plains tomorrow. Could bring you a new gutter if you're gonna be there all day.

All I do is 6 inch, but I agree. I'd have extended past until the back of the gutter was pretty much touching the drip edge of the little porch roof on the right.

Every season seems to bring all that I can handle, usually a little more. But I'll never complain about that. Fortunately due to a past career I can shut down for the winters and drive mail truck for a postal contractor just to get me out of the house a few days a week in the off season.
Had I known the winter was going to be mild up until yesterday I probably could have found enough work to run another roll or 2 of coil through the machine.
I hope things are going good for you also.

Was a great year. December was busiest month ironically. If weather stays the way it is January is fully booked but I think I'm kidding myself if I think imgonna be able to squeeze it all in. Keeping fingers crossed

That is a good guy right there, agreed! Thanks a lot for that offer. I have to leave early AM so I just did what I could with the handful of rusty tools I found in the basement, roll of aluminum, and salvaged gutter parts.

I designed a quick kick out type flashing to catch that drip and send it back to the gutter.

My parents should really have all the gutters replaced and reworked eventually. If you do work in Tarrytown, I'll have to get your company name. Thanks man!

Ok no problem...tarrytown is in my service area. Like I said I'm 10 min from there if there is no traffic on the bridge. How do you like the new bridge ? They are moving quick

Re: Roof Detail Missing The Gutter

It's starting to look like a bridge now. It's come a long way since last winter. We always had a great view of the bridge here but they built a few mega mansions about 10 years ago...blocked it out.

I'm lucky to have grown up in this area, but I don't think I'll ever move back, it's WAY too expensive for me. If my parents didn't own this place I don't know that they would be able to either. My dad is a trombone player so he needs to be near NYC for work.
