Re: Referral Letter

Okay, I admit it, I have no idea what you mean by a referral letter to send a customer. Referral letters are usually written by your cusotmers.

Re: Referral Letter

A survey letter to send to your customers asking for referrals of their friends and family?

Re: Referral Letter

Paul, my personal opinion of your letter. I would be turned off halfway through the first line. The wording "window installation and/or vinyl siding" is very impersonal. I'd think if the guy doesn't even know what he sold and/or installed, I would feel pretty slighted. Form letters suck IMHO.

Re: Referral Letter

Paul, I tend to agree, here is a quick version that you might find a little easier to use:

Dear Tom,

I wanted to personally thank you for your business and let you know how much we truly enjoyed helping you increase the value of your home through our installation of the replacement windows you purchased from Home Depot.

As a way of showing our gratitude, please accept the business cards enclosed. Simply write your name on the back of each one before you hand it to a friend or relative whom you believe could use our services. We will reward you with a $50 Home Depot gift card for each person who we do business with that presents your card to us.

You have our word that your trust in referring us won’t be let down. We will strive doubly hard to service your friends and relatives exactly with the same level of care and commitment to quality that you experienced.

Sincerely,
***X

Re: Referral Letter

All of my form letters I try to write as generic as possible so they can be form letters but don't appear as such.

We all kind of hijacked this thread guessing what CALL wanted. I am still curous what he was originally requesting.

I write a personalized thank you note in the driveway after every sale I make and put it in their mailbox. So every customer has a personal thank you from me before receiving that letter.

Also call every customer after their project is installed to make sure it went ok. I tell them that HD will be sending them that letter.

I wanted customers to think that it is a formal program sponsored by Home Depot and not something I personally made up.

Its worked pretty good so far. I have gotten $45000 in referral business in 6 months using that method.

Maybe if I take the time to make it more personal I can get more.

Sorry for the confusion. I am seeking example letters asking a customer for referrals.

Thanks.

Re: Referral Letter

Rich, letter of introduction? I may be wrong but I thought that they went out with a prior generation.

Maybe in addition to the hd gift cards you should write on the back of the cards for them to give out is a 5% off labor on any job over $***x or 10% off labor on any job over $***xx this way the person who gives the cards out gets an hd card so they love giving them out and the person who gets it wont lose it because of the "coupon" on the back.

I'm confused, so it is something you personally made up?
I don't think there is anything wrong with that system of generating referrals, but do customers get mad when they find out they were duped? Wouldn't it look better if you showed customers that you go above and beyond HD's requirements for customer satisfaction and provided the coupon or refund or any kind of incentive out of pocket?
I've never done any work for HD but I'll be willing to bet $5 that they would be a bit upset that you were misrepresenting them and offering your services in conjunction with a bogus HD reward program.

I'm not trying to be critical, and I'm sure your intentions are good. Like I said, I might have misunderstood. I was wrong one other day.
