Pulldown Stairs And Roof Trusses 24" Oc

Residential remodeler based in Philadelphia area. I was asked to install a set of wooden attic stairs. Can roof trusses be headed to install 25" wide steps or is my only option the 22 1/2" wides that mount in between? Have a call into structural engineer but does anybody have experience.

Thanks,

Jim

Just buy the ones made for
truss installations.
Then point out to the HO
that the attic is a poor place
for storage and the weight
should be very limited.

The pull down stairs are made to fit in between the trusses that are 24" O.C.

If you cut the trusses you will need a truss engineer or structural engineer to approve it and if it were in florida, you would be required to pull a permit for it.

If you have cut the trusses, there isn't a thing anyone on this forum can tell you except 1) hope you have great insurance, and 2) best of luck.

If you already cut the chords,
it's gonna be worth every penny
this guy charges you to keep your
butt outta the sling!
Would have been waaaay cheaper
to just buy the 22½" stairs.

I meant to say I already have "suggested the smaller stairs that fit between the trusses. It would be unprofessional and plain irresponsible to cut then ask questions later. EZJ
