Plaster Ceiling Problems…

Last spring we re-roofed a one story stick built home. The construction on the home seems good and there is a small dormer that extends above the kitchen.
The paint is starting to peel off the ceiling on the kitchen ceiling so we scraped it all off. There appears to be some water marks, but none has dripped though at all. We blew insulation into the attic above, to +R49 after the roof was replaced as well.
My obvious solution was to check the ventilation. We used Sure Vent II for ridge vent. After looking this winter, I pulled off some of the vented soffit and under was covered in plywood. We took off the facia and sofit and removed the plywood, installed chute baffles to ensure we got a good flow to the ridge. The ventilation and insulation appear to be working marvelously there has been no ice build up at all on the roof.
The insulation shows no signs of water dripping, the back side of the sheeting has no water stains.

I’m thinking the plaster from the lack of ventilation simply has degraded and will not hold paint. Even after the ventilation was fixed….it appears to be getting worse.
Any ideas? The only thing above is a vent stack, but it’s a 1 story ranch style home.
Regaurds!

Sounds to me like it might be a ventilation problem in the kitchen not above the kitchen. What have they got for exhaust in the kitchen? Do they use it?

Re: Plaster Ceiling Problems…

No exaust system in the kitchen.

The sink is vented though the roof. The roof appears to be applied correct and all the shingles appear to be in perfect condition still.

The ceiling is really only bad on one area and there is one sink and a dishwasher in the kitchen.
