Pictures Of Poor Work/ Sales Proposals

I have a very loyal customer, that owns 6-7 properties. He's a retired college professor and so is his wife. He's the only property investor I ENJOY working for because he wants top notch materials used, and top notch work done.

We have replaced the roofs on all his homes but one.

He purchased the home, 4 years ago, the roof was replaced by a larger company that travels to this area for work, they are about 80 miles away.

Needless to say, a cheap 3 tab shingle, on a home that is on the beach of Lake Michigan. 4 miles of open water between Wisconsin and his home, nothing to slow or break the wind.

The shingles are already "cupping" or lifting on the edges, worn out. The skylights have no flashing. Instead, they have tar from the top of the skylight, spread 3 inches around the entire thing. It's a 2'x4' skylight and I'm not exaggerating when I tell you there is about 4 gallons of tar around each one.

Vent pipes, same story, just some gold old tar, no flashing. At least that goon on youtube installs a cheap one, these guys install nothing.

We'll take good care of him, but if I take pictures, put them in a sales proposal when I'm going through a bid with a customer, to show them what kind of work is done if you go with the cheapest guy could I be held liable?

The home owner has the invoice from the previous owner, with the company, finished date and price on it. I would not mention the company name, just tell them the story in the sales pitch, and show them the photos.

Thanks for any advice!

Re: Pictures Of Poor Work/ Sales Proposals

Why do you have to do a sales pitch if you have already replaced most of his roofs? He knows they are bad and knows you do good work. If you take pictures, take them as you do the work, for your records, and let it go. If he wants to go after the other guys, he will and he will ask for the pics. Give them to him and don't worry about it.

As for showing pics to another customer, one who is not so loyal, you should do so since they probably have not been up on their roof. What is, is. How can you be held liable for taking pics of sub-standard work.

Pictures for OTHER proposals for OTHER customers is what I think he was attempting to convey!!

As for liability........An anonymous picture of an anonymous home is completely acceptable and most legal.

Do it. I think it 's a geat idea.
It may put the fear of death in them, to see what can be done to their property.

Re: Pictures Of Poor Work/ Sales Proposals

I wouldn't worry about using the pics at all. You can take pictures of anyone's home from the street if you want to. It's all public. Don't be caught on private property though. I don't think I would advertise on the web either with any addresses or anything showing. That may raise a few hairs.

I'm thinking of taking some pics of the lazy a$$ city and road workers around this area that we give our tax money to.

Re: Pictures Of Poor Work/ Sales Proposals

It's certainly not for this customer, he will use us, does not bat an eye at the price.

I would use some pictures of how his sky lights are "flashed" and show them next to how I flash skylights. Chimneys and boots, all the same, picture of how the local hacks do it, and pictures of the right way.

I would use the customer as a reference, and I'm sure he would be thrilled to tell them who did the 41 square roof on this house that he has to pay me to replace 6 or 7 years later.

That miter is what we call a heavy cut .....when fat people lean on the corner the joint closes right up nice.
