Newbie To Roofing-How To Choose Shingle, Contractor?

Hello, everyone.

We are in need of a new roof, as we have suffered from hail damage here in Chicago 'burbs.

I have been poking around this site today and quite frankly, I am more confused than ever. The only good thing thus far is that I have been assured that I have good ventilation. (We installed an attic fan a few years ago along with extra soffit vents).

So far, I have had three estimates. One using Pinnacle, the second GAF, and the last uses Tamko.

How do I best choose the right roofer and materials?

All advice would be appreciated.

TIA!

Cathy

I would say go to your local lumber yard and find a contractor reputable in the area. This way if you have any problems, they will be around to help you out.
The brand of shingles that is best can depend on your location. people on this site near your area will give you the best advise. I use Cetainteed Landmark because they have worked the best up here in MN.

Don't go for the storm chasers with all the signs and contracts.
You'll thank me later when you hear the problems from your neighbors.
