Moss On The Roof

I have moss growing on my roof. How can I get rid of it? It's just on the north side, it doesn't get as much sun as the south side. Can I spray it with something to kill the moss? A weak bleach solution or something? This is my roof, not a customer's, so I can experiment a little bit. I just don't want any nasty poisinous runoff to affect my dogs, who use the back porch daily.

Re: Moss On The Roof

I've used a pressure washer to get rid of the moss before. Just make sure you do not use to much pressure and spray from top to bottom. Make sure you don't lift the shingles with the spray.

Crawdad,
PM me with a little info about you.Location(state city)name, etc.I can either hook you up with a company that does low pressure roof chemical cleaning or direct you to a place to learn how to do it yourself.

PM sent. Thanks in advance for any help. I need to kill this moss, as a few shingles are being lifted, and I don't want to re-roof my cabin.

I understand that a zinc strip located at the gable of the roof and just below any vent pipes will do the trick. When it rains chemicals from the zinc are washed down the roof and kill the moss. Trying researching zinc strips.

Thats exactly rite and they work. I bet he has a tree hanging over that side of his house. Finally when you go to reroof go with AR shingles.
