Miami Roofer Finds Perfect Roofing Truck?

Am I crazy or is this a great roofing truck? Don't see a thread on this so I thought it'd be interesting to see "outside the box ideas" for vehicles.
Got a little roofing company in Miami & the more I looked at this '99 F-350 UHaul the more it looked like the perfect truck or us . We do a lot of residential roof repair, lotta' different stuff. No more forgetting sh@t. It carries EVERYTHING.
Before I left the paint shop a guy asked if that was my truck, gave me a card & said his seafood market was leaking . . .Runs like a car, cold AC, almost new Goodyears all around and love the ramp!

The ramp is cool for sure! Much better than being bent over in a van, or having to drag everything out of a truck - load and unload twice / day.

A roofer friend of mine has sprinter vans. They're pretty nice too, everything fits in them, and you can stand up straight

I think a few things won't fit. Alumapole systems and long ladders won't make it in there. It's great for the rest of it.

Pretty cool.
How much did you pay for the truck and how many miles were on her?

Re: Miami Roofer Finds Perfect Roofing Truck?

$4,500 200K miles Well maintained. UHaul had 30 of 'em on the lot and you gotta' check 'em out. Had three '06es in good condition for $3000. Been sitting awhile.
Had some '97s for $4,200 and no '98s.
My '99 had just come off the road and been run through the maintenance dept. Then they wrap the signs white which made it easy for my sign guy to do the lettering all around for $400. Took it to the shop & painted over the doors and fenders for $600.
Had it for a few weeks now & still think it's great for a roofing contractor in Miami. Everything stays dry and safe. And it does hold my 2-story extension ladder(14.5') if you shove it up into Mama's Attic which also accommodates metal and lumber racks on top of each set of shelves.
11' bed and 14' attic

Re: Miami Roofer Finds Perfect Roofing Truck?

My step dad bought one when he was working for a company out of Orlando. He didnt even have it a week and one of the crews he was running offered him almost twice what he paid for it. Then he saw it three days later and they sawed the top off the back! He sent me pictures and everything. It was crazy looking.

And it does hold my 2-story extension ladder(14.5')[/QUOTE]

A 28 foot ladder is your two story extension ladder. I need to move to Miami. I can hardly touch a roof on a two story house with a 32 footer here. 40 footers do the job nice

I see quite a few of those retrofitted around here. One of our framers has his outfitted nice. Really wide and roomy. I do know someone makes roof racks for them as I see poles and planks on them quite a bit.

Nope.
Between all the coquina rock and the water table, it's virtually impossible to have a basement around here.

Re: Miami Roofer Finds Perfect Roofing Truck?

Yeah, that ladder of mine is fine for any 2-story roof in S FL. You could easily rig something on top for longer ladders but it's just not necessary for roofing in Miami. Roofers really go for box trucks down here but haven't seen one in a UHaul yet.
What the hell is a basement? . . .Kidding, originally from Pa.
While we're on the subject of ladders I'd like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to practice ladder safety.

Re: Miami Roofer Finds Perfect Roofing Truck?

Pretty sure that's not mine. Like I said, you gotta check 'em out. I figure there's a lot of highway miles and people don't do THAT with their stuff in there. It's not like you're buying a rent-a-car.
Besides, what's the big deal. They're checking the brakes . . .
