Metal Roofing

I will be building a cabin for a friend in central Maine, and will be using metal for the roof (Fabral or similar). I have not done a metal roof yet and am looking for an opinion on a possible set up.
This project is being done in stages so the finish interior is probably a few seasons away, maybe more.

In the mean time the cabin will be used year round so some insulation use is desired for summer and winter. It may remain as a "rustic" cabin for longer than hoped for.

My though was to use a layer foam panel insulation between the roof deck and metal roof. This would not be the final finish detail for the cathederal ceiling/roof insulation requirements but just something to help with heat.

Plywood
Ice and water shield
2x4 sleepers/foam insulation
Metal

I want to stay away from having exposed fibreglass or foam inside the building, thats where this came from.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thank you

Re: Metal Roofing

Sleepers around the perimeter are good. You can spot foam ISO board, but youll need 6 inches to meet most current codes.

For the long term, it might be better to foam the underside of the roof deck and build in a wood beam and plank ceiling.

Re: Metal Roofing

Central Maine? Cabin? Codes? Not sure they "Truly" apply.

Sewer and Elec. service connect to the Municipality? No? Then what codes!

Please define "Cabin".

As for Metal roof.....Never done one but I do know that it is all about the SEAMS! But what roof is not?!

Concerning the 6" ISO and an open interior roof. "Hot" the ISO to the decking. Easiest way to avoid any penetration of fasteners is to not use 'em!

But again.....I have NEVER done a "tin roof".

Re: Metal Roofing

thanks

at this point "code" is an optional word.

Any insulation we installed at this point would be miniscule campared to what would meet requirements.

Also hopefully to help with sound control during rain, once again minimal but something

Cabin= stick built Cape style house, will be framed, roofed and sided but interior will probably remain only rough framed for a few seasons.
While the funds catch up

Eventually it will become a year round house, own septic and water. At that point is where we will work to meet whatever code is enforced up there . 30 min Outside Bangor

All of the above was where I was going! A far as sound isolation....Rain on a tin roof is a sound that is beyond beautiful. Hail on the other hand.......

Enjoy! Good luck! Learn!
