Re: Metal Roof To Sky Light Flashing?
When overlapping steel, starting at the penetration corner, I run 3-5 beads of caulk before locking that next panel in. The beads are mainly to seperate the pieces of metal. The seperation prevents water wicking, not leaks. I expect the panel placement to be the primary leak proofing!
Here, at this site, my links often end up with '...' and part of the word 'images' missing?????????????????????????? Go to my site and click on the 'My CoffeeShop Photo Albums' for direct link to ALL those pics. The moderators here sometimes fix the 'problem'.

Re: Metal Roof To Sky Light Flashing?
Hi tinner666
I agree with the panel being the water barrier, and not giving anything else the opportunity to suck water. If I go to your coffee shop, how will I know what photo shots you are referring to on your posts 13,and 14? tinner I talked the owner into standing seam and I have done this before, but I have never worked the metal around the sky lights.(Velux). Can I bend or make my own flashing? Or would you recommend I buy the metal roofing sky light flashing kit (expensive)? Also I noticed on my last job that when I bent the lower lip over the edge, that sometimes they were not exactly straight. I did square the roof before I started, but I was surprised at the drip edge looking slightly slanted. (like the panels were not perfectly straight with the building. Can you give me an idea of how much I should let the panel overhang to have the correct bend. Sorry for all the detailed questions. I do not expect you to help me with so many details, I just need a little advice if you are open to giving it. Thanks |

Re: Metal Roof To Sky Light Flashing?
Velux comes with it's own counter flashing. I make my panels to conform with the SL's. I don't start at the rake. I start from the Sl's. THe only piece I need to make is the piece at the top of the SL. And the cleats, not nails hold it on. Their metal 'roof' kit sucks and relies on the water getting under the panels and getting safely back out. I'll never use it.

Re: Metal Roof To Sky Light Flashing? This is the L. front corner of one. No flashing necessary, and the side panel is continous to the eave. No joints either. The pans in front are boxed closed and behind the gasket.
